Sapcote Methodist Church News
Mission Statement
A world transformed by God's love
A confident Church motivated to share God's love
A people celebrating being part of a worldwide family
We are called by Jesus to share the love of God with all who are around us.
Every Methodist is called to share in this mission, working together in cooperation, partnership and collaboration wherever they are.
In supporting social action (acts of charity) and sharing the good news of Jesus Christ - we are fulfilling God's mission that God will enable holiness, transforming lives, communities, nations and the world.

Open the Book
Please consider joining us!
Open the Book is a project run by the Bible Society which presents the Bible in primary schools in an accessible way. The stories are told in ways which enable the children to engage imaginatively with the text. They are presented during Collective Worship using a variety of storytelling methods, costumes and props.
We have a team in Sapcote and Sharnford and we go into the 2 primary schools once a fortnight. We begin with the “Open the Book” song which most of the children now know really well. There is then a brief introduction to ensure that each story is placed in context then we open the book and act out the story. This usually involves some of the children taking part. All of the stories are scripted so we are reading from the book. After the story there is a short conclusion and time for guided reflection. This gives the children time to reflect on some aspect of the story or something which related directly to them and their friends. This is followed by a short prayer and a song. This takes about 15 minutes.
We deliver the first session at Sharnford then go to Sapcote and repeat the session.
We currently have a team of 7 people but unfortunately one member will be leaving next term. We really need more volunteers to help with this project. At present I am the only member from Sapcote Methodist Church; the others are from All Saints and Sharnord. It would be lovely to have more people from our church joining us.
The time commitment is small - 2 hours on a Wednesday morning once a fortnight during term time (usually 6 sessions per term) plus a short planning meeting once a term. Not everyone can be there at every session due to holidays, family commitments or illness and if we have more people in the team, not everyone is needed every week so you may only do 4 or 5 sessions per term.
Please consider joining our Open the Book team. It really is rewarding.
If you would like to find out more, or come along and observe one of our sessions, please speak to me.

ECO CHURCH
The Methodist church aspires to a target of NETZERO by 2030 and is currently supported by a charity called A ROCHA, a Christian environmental charity. The Charity provides a framework to support churches to take practical action on caring for God’s earth, through the Eco church survey. The survey covers five key areas of church life which are:
Worship & Teaching
Buildings
Land
Community & Engagement
Lifestyle
Our circuit would like each church to work towards A ROCHA’s bronze award in the first instance. We have done an initial assessment and were surprised at how much we already contributed towards care of the environment, such as our current recycling efforts, engagement with the community and aspects of worship. However, we still have more to do and have a few ideas for the future. We plan to have a buildings energy audit and aim to keep you informed on a regular basis via this newsletter. For more information, please see the A ROCHA poster on the noticeboard or speak to your Eco-church Champions. In the meantime, the food waste recycling scheme which is being introduced by Blaby Council, will help the church become more eco-friendly and we encourage everyone who uses the kitchen to make use of the dedicated recycling bins.

News from the Vine
Our world book day celebrations continue in our “limited offers” section - titles reduced from £10-15 to just £1 and £2. Ask a member of staff for more details or where to find these on our shelves.

Whether a couple of hours on the till and making drinks or helping with food orders and light kitchen duties, we would love to hear from you. Please note our closure over Easter: we will be closing at the end of the day on Tuesday 31st March and reopen on Wednesday 8th April.
From the staff and volunteers at The Vine we wish you all a very Happy Easter, we hope you enjoy and share in the love and hope the season brings.
